Convincing win for Wesley by Chris Dhambarage Wesley College pulled off a convincing 34 points to 8 win over Vidyartha College Kandy in their President's trophy knock out rugby tournament quarterfinal match played at Havelock Park on Friday. The Wesleyites collected their points from two goals and four tries after having led 15-3 at half time. Vidyartha responded with a try and a penalty. The two wingers N. Fariz and S. Kingswood in q-finals Earlier Kingswood College pulled off a convincing 27 points to 6 win over Zahira College in their per quarterfinal match played at the same venue. The Kingswoodians collected their points from two goals, two tries and one penalty after having led 12-3 at half time. Zahira managed to put over only two penalties. Isipatana pulls out Meanwhile Isipatana have pulled out from the tournament following a dispute over the Milo 'A' Division League championship. Isipatana were declared runners-up of the league tournament with St. Peter's College winning the title on a superior try scoring average. However, Isipatana remained unbeaten in the tournament while the Peterites lost to Royal in their opening fixture. Isipatana were schedule to meet D. S. Senanayake in their pre-quarterfinal fixture on Saturday at Havelock Park. The tournament will be continued today with S. Thomas' College Mount Lavinia meeting St. Joseph's College at Havelock Park and Thurstan playing against St. Anthony's College at Nittawela. Peterites win Meanwhile the Milo 'A' Division League champions St. Peter's College launched their campaign for the President's trophy knock out rugby tournament with a smashing 34 points to three win over Carey College in their pre quarterfinal match played at the Royal grounds, Reid Avenue on Thursday. The Peterites playing like a true champion side ran down six tries after having led 17-3 at half time while Carey managed to put over a solitary penalty. Dynamic wing three quarter Mohamed Rinaz and full back Phillip Aasingherachchi scored two tries each while Dharshana Edirisinghe, R. Peiris and P. Sumanapala scored a try each. Fly half Dinuk Jayasinghe converted two tries. |
