Miss Tourism International 2002 - World Finals: World beauties are here! by Jayanthi Liyanage
Blondes, brunettes, redheads - in all conceivable soft shades and drapes gathered at the Library of Trans Asia Hotel last Tuesday. Thirty two of the world's smartest and beautiful young women had just flown in with more to follow and grace the ramps of Miss Tourism International 2002 world pageant, scheduled to be held at BMICH on October 4. The contest has picked heavily from the Eastern Bloc countries, Europe and the Far East, with England, Scotland, Germany, Latvia, Nigeria, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia and our own Sri Lanka, represented by Anoja De Mel, among them. Sebastian Perera, Franchise Director for Miss Tourism International pageant, speaking to the press at Trans Asia, the host hotel, stressed that as there are eight mini pageants in hotels at eight beautiful locales, each hotel will select winners for two mini titles, giving ample winning leverage to the contestants.
Angela Humble, international compere and choreographer, who was involved in the 1993 and 1996 world pageants held in Sri Lanka, was back again to lend her artistry to the pageant. The much-publicised glitter event is billed as one of the biggest venues to promote an optimistic image of the country to the international community since the peace moves began. Each contestant will take back to her country a compact disc, made by the Sri Lanka Tourist Board, to promote Lankan eco-tourism. |
