Notice on Navy 'Chief of Staff' by Ramani Kangaraarachchi The Court of Appeal has issued notice returnable on September 11 on the petition submitted by Rear Admiral Mohan Wijewickrama, Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy, citing Vice Admiral Daya Sandagiri Commander of the Navy, Defence Secretary Austin Fernando and Attorney General K.C. Kamalasabayson as respondents. The Court of Apeeal issued an interim order last week directly to Defence Secretary Austin Fernando to submit copies of relevant letters allegedly written by the Commander of the Navy making allegations against Rear Admiral Wijewickrama. The petitioner stated that the letter written by Vice Admiral Sandagiri on February 25 and April 24, 2002 had allegedly accused certain senior officers of the Navy including himself for having committed serious crimes against the Navy over the purchase of Fast Gun Boats from China. The bench comprised Justice Nihal Jayasuriya (President) and Justice K. Siripavan. |
