Tiger veteran Yogi visits Jaffna Veteran LTTE commander and one-time negotiator Yogaratnam Yogi was in Jaffna last week to see his relatives. Political sources in Jaffna said that it was a private visit by the Vanni-based Tiger stalwart who is no longer involved in military operations and is known to prefer a backseat in current LTTE affairs. Yogi was an active participant at the peace talks betwen the President Premadasa Government and the LTTE in the early 1990s. He had also taken part in various rounds of talks with Indian leaders prior to the signing of the Indo- Lanka Accord in 1987. Yogi, who now lives in the Vanni with his wife and children is understood to have visited relatives in the peninsula. He also visited his alma mater, the Jaffna Hindu College and met some of his old teachers and colleagues. Yogi is known to be active in the political wing of the LTTE, but does not play any key role like his senior colleague S. P. Thamilchelvam. |
