Indoor Cricket in Sri Lanka ventured into new ground when the General Secretary for the Indian Indoor Cricket Federation(IICF), Mohinder Singh Khasa, visited Sri Lanka on a 3 day official visit last week in order to sign three(3) agreements with the Ceylon Indoor Cricket Association(CICA) officials.

His visit to this island will lead to the forming of a new Federation for Indoor Cricket in Asia with the alliance of Sri Lanka and India, namely an Asian Indoor Cricket Federation.

The Asian Indoor Cricket Federation will be based in Sri Lanka and the founder member countries are India and Sri Lanka. In time to come more Indoor cricket playing countries in Asia will join the Asian body of Indoor cricket.

With the forming of this Federation the possibility of conducting the first ever Indoor Cricket Asia Cup will be utilised. At the preliminary meeting held last Saturday, August 31, Sri Lanka was selected as the venue to host the final round of the first ever Asia cup and the Tournament will start in April 2003.

India will host the first round of matches of the Tournament. The formation of the new Asian Indoor

Cricket Federation will turn a new era for Indoor Cricket in the Asian region. A Memorandum of Understanding(MOU) was signed between the IICF and the CICA for the TV rights for the International Indoor Cricket matches to be played in Sri Lanka.
