Air Force Open Squash Tournament from September 14 to 21 The second Sri Lanka Air Force open (Ranking) Squash Tournament 2002 sponsored by the Sri Lanka Air Force and organised and conducted by the Sri Lanka Squash Federation will be held at the Air Force Sports Complex Thummulla & Sri Lanka Air Force Base Katunayake from September 14 to 21. Last year despite the fact that it was not a ranking Tournament there were about 140 entries in total. More entries are expected this year as the Tournament is open to the youngsters as well The preliminary rounds will be held at Thummulla and the final will be at Katunayake. Last year cash prizes were given inspite of the fact that it was not a ranking tournament. The categories for this year's competition are as follows: Men's and Women's Open, Men's Intermediate(over 35 years), Master's(over 45 years), Boys and Girls under 11 , Under 13, Under 15, Under 17, and Under 19. The cut off age for each age group would be as at 21st September 2002. An entry fee of Rs 150/- per event will be charged per event for those under 19 and Rs 200 for the senior events. The closing date for entries is 5 p.m. on Tuesday September 10. The draw for the Tournament will be held at Sri Lanka Air Force Rifle Green at 6 p.m. on Tuesday September 10. The draw will be on a knockout basis with seedings done as per ASF(Asian Squash Federation) practice. The draw will be displayed at the CCC by Thursday September 12. The Chief Guest will be Air Force Commander Air Vice Marshall Donald Perera. The top seeds for Men will be Navin Samarasinghe, N.S. Jayantha, and T.Suwaris and for Women will be Kushani Daluwatte and Thehani Guruge. (PJ) |
