Australia favoured to take top spot in Isipatana International Sevens Rugby by RANJAN ANANDAPPA Host Isipatana made a significant impact along with local teams Kingswood, Thurstan, St. Peter's and Royal to enter the 'Cup' Championship at the Isipatana International Sevens Rugger Tournament held in connection with the 50th Anniversary celebrations of Isipatana College at Longden Place yesterday. Among the foreign teams, NSW Junior School from Australia, Russia, Lloyd McDermott also from Australia did well to enter the quarter-finals of the 'Cup' Championship. The Isipatana-Sutton United Kingdom game was the pick of the matches as the host school came back strongly in the second-half after the scores were deadlock at 7-7 at the breather. Two excellent efforts by Dharmasiri who went on to 'plant' two tries and another strong run by Dinesh Kumara who covered good ground to score under the post gave the winners the advantage. The Peterites too, gave a determined performance, maintaining an unbeaten record in the tournament. Their success came mainly due to their speedy winger Mohammed Rinaz. However, the two teams from Australia Lloyd McDermott and NSW Junior seem to be the favourites to take the main title. Russia went on to pile up the highest points when they trounced a Southern Province team by 70 points to 12. The line up for the 'Cup' Championship. NSW Junior Australia vs Kingswood, Russia vs Thurstan, St. Peter's vs Lloyd McDermott Australia. Royal vs Isipatana. The line up for the 'Bowl' Championship: St. Anthony's (K) vs Sutton, UK.
