JETRO to stage Sri Lanka Exhibition The Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) together with the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) will hold the Sri Lanka Exhibition from October 2 to 4 at the JETRO Akasaka Exhibition Hall in Tokyo. The single country exhibition is being held to celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations between Japan and Sri Lanka and further strengthen bilateral friendship and cooperation through increased economic activity. Minister of Enterprise Development, Industrial Policy and Investment Promotion and Constitutional Affairs Professor G.L. Peiris and Minister of Foreign Affairs Tyronne Fernando will grace the occasion to strengthen economic ties with Japan and express Sri Lanka's strong interest in Japan .Prof Peiris will address the potential for cooperation at the investment promotion seminar to be held on October 2 at the JETRO BSC Hall. Thirty one firms and organisations from Sri Lanka will participate in the exhibition to display Ceylon and herbal tea; coir (coconut husk fibre) products; apparel and textiles; gems and jewellery; rubber products; and information technology and software services. Apparel, Sri Lanka's major export, is used by top European and US brands. Products made of coir include garden items such as planters and hanging pots, as well as deodorisers. The Sri Lanka Tea Board and the Sri Lankan Embassy in Japan will organise tea tasting sessions during the exhibition. Panel displays and video presentations will introduce Sri Lanka and its investment environment to potential investors. Other 50th anniversary activities to be organised by the embassy include a Sri Lanka film festival from September 25 to October 2 at the Japan Foundation Forum Conference Hall (1st floor, Akasaka Twin Tower Building); the Sri Lankan food and cultural festival from September 27 to October 6 at the Hilton Tokyo; and the Colours of Lanka jewellery and fashion show.
