Susanthika gets 7 1/2 lakhs for 2 golds CHRIS DHAMBARAGE reporting from Matara The Sri Lankan athletes who brought honour to the country at the recent Asian Track and Field meet in Colombo were felicitated and were presented with handsome cash awards on the final day of the 28th National Sports Festival concluded at the Uyanwatte Stadium in Matara yesterday. Susanthika Jayasinghe who won two gold medals in the women's 100 metres and 200 metres received Rs. 750,000. In addition, her first coach Dhammika Wanigasinghe received Rs. 25,000 and her present coach Laxman de Alwis was presented with a cash award of Rs. 50,000. Ranga Wimalawansa, Prasanna Amarasekera and Rohan Pradeep Kumara all members of the 4 X 400 metres relay team which won the gold medal received a cash award of Rs. 125,000 each. Damayanthi Darsha, Swarnamali Edirisinghe, Menaka Wickremasinghe and K. L. Gunawardena who were the members of the women's 4 X 400 metres relay team which won a bronze medal received a cash award of Rs. 50,000 each. Sriyani Kulawansa who won a silver medal in the women's 100 metes hurdles were presented with Rs. 250,000. Sugath Tillekeratne who was a member of the 4 X 400 metres relay team and who won a bronze medal in the men's 400 metres received a cach award of Rs. 250,000. In addition, Senaka Premawansa the present coach of Sugath Tillekeratne was presented with Rs. 25,000. J. W. Wimalaratne the former coach of Ranga Wimalawansa received a cash award of Rs. 25,000. K. Jayatissa the former coach of Prasanna Amarasekera received Rs. 25,000 and Sunil Gunawardena the present coach of Rohan Pradeep Kumara, Prasanna Amarasekera, Ranga Wimalawansa, Damayanthi Darsha was presented with a cash award of Rs. 50,000. Sarath Dhamson the former coach of Swarnamali Edirisinghe received Rs. 25,000 and her present coach Y. K. Kularatne received Rs. 50,000. Neville Rodrigo, the former coach of Menaka Wickremasinghe received Rs. 25,000 and her present coach P. Palamurai received Rs. 50,000. Kulasiri Samarasinghe the former coach of K. L. Gunawardena received a cash award of Rs. 25,000 and her present coach Sarath Galagoda received Rs. 50,000. |
