Diving, Waterpolo and Synchronised Swimming to combine with Swimming Nationals by LESLIE FERNANDO The National Swimming Championships this year will have a new look National Amateur Aquatic Sports Union of Sri Lanka (NAASU) at its last Executive Committee meeting decided to hold the swimming nationals for men and women and include Diving, Waterpolo and Synchronised swimming in the program. So all four branches of aquatic sports will be held together for the first time. But NAASU has decided to scrap the junior boys events for both boys and girls which events were held with the National Swimming Championships in the past. According to senior official of NAASU, the National Swimming Championships will be held from October 17 to 19 at the Sugathadasa Stadium swimming pool. The knockout waterpolo tournament preliminary round matches will be worked off prior to the nationals and the final round matches and the final will be played on the final day of the Nationals. It was also decided to hold separate championships for junior boys (under-12 and under-14) and intermediates early in November. The swimmers and divers will be set a standard timing and standard points respectively. The swimmers who reach the qualifying timing and the divers collecting set points will be selected and will be included to the national pool in preparation for next year's South Asian Federation (SAF) Games to be held in Pakistan. |
