British anti-terror expert here by Ramani Kangaraarachchi British General Sir Michael Rose, KCB CBE DSO QGM, an expert on anti-terrorism, arrived in Sri Lanka last week on an invitation extended by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. After meeting Defence Minister Tilak Marapana, Gen. Rose visited the security troops in Jaffna, Trincomallee, Batticaloa and the Sri Lanka Military Academy in Diyatalawa last week and addressed the Army officers on anti-terrorism and how to stabilise peace in Sri Lanka. He was accompanied by Chief of Staff of the Army, Major General Lohan Gunawardena, Major Generals Susil Chandrapala and K.B. Egodawela, to the respective places. Gen. Rose also addressed a large number of officers of the Army, Navy and Air Force at Army Headquarters in Colombo on Saturday. He is due to meet Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today. Gen. Rose retired from the Army in 1997 and since then he has written and lectured extensively on peace-keeping and leadership to a wide variety of audiences around the world. His book on his experience in Bosnia, "Fighting for Peace" was published in 1998 by Harvill Press, London. He is currently writing a book on the Generalship of George Washington. He has also been commissioned to write for a large number of UK national newspapers such as the Times and the Telegraph. Gen. Rose was commissioned as a regular officer into the Coldstream Guards in 1964. He served in Germany and the Middle East before joining 22 Special Air Service Regiment in 1968. He had also taken part in the Falkland Islands conflict from 1979 to 1982. Gen. Michael Rose is a product of the Royal College of Defence Studies joining in 1986. In 1994, he took command of the UN Protection Force in Bosnia. This was his third visit to Sri Lanka. |
