Nobody to act for SLAF boss

by Ramani Kangaraarachchi

Nobody has been appointed to act for the Air Force Commander, Air Vice Marshal Donald Perera, who went abroad on leave last week to attend to an urgent family commitment.

The post of Chief of Staff fell vacant after Air Vice Marshal Perera was appointed as SLAF chief with the sudden resignation of Air Marshal Jayalath Weerakkody over the controversial traffic accident in June this year. So far nobody has been appointed as Chief of Staff of the Air Force. However, Air Commodore Lakshan Salgado attends to the work of the Air Force Commander, according to Air Force sources.

Meanwhile, Air Commodore Roshan Goonatilake is acting as the Commander of the Katunayake Air Base, relieving Air Commodore Channa Gunarathne, who is due to leave for USA for a three-month training course.

Air Commodore Tudor Ratnayake who was Director, Welfare of the SLAF, has also retired and he has been replaced by Air Commodore R.M.P.K. Dasanayake, who has been promoted to that rank recently.
