Militants attack minister's house in Indian Kashmir SRINAGAR, Sept 21 (Reuters) - Suspected guerrillas lobbed a grenade at the house of a Kashmir minister but nobody was hurt in the attack which came ahead of the second round of voting in a state election dogged by violence, police said on Saturday. A senior police official said Tourism Minister Sakina Itoo was not at home when the grenade exploded in the compound in Anantnag district of south Kashmir late on Friday. It was the third attack on Itoo since campaigning began for the poll which New Delhi hopes will bolster the legitimacy of its rule in the disputed region. She escaped unhurt when militants attacked her motorcade earlier this month, but two security guards were killed. More than 460 people, including a National Conference minister and almost 30 political activists from various parties, have died since the poll was announced on August 2. Islamic separatists have vowed to derail the poll by attacking anyone involved in it. The second of four rounds of voting is on Tuesday and the last on October 8. |
