Mundo gas shipment expected within 3 weeks

Mundo Gas Lanka Limited, the latest entrant to the country's LP gas market, would buy empty cylinders from a local manufacturer, Chairman Ariyaseela Wickramanayake said last week.

Speaking at a ceremony to appoint the first 100 dealers and distributors, Wickramanayake said the first shipment of gas from Philippines is expected within the next three weeks, arrangements have been made to release a warehouse at the Galle Port to store cylinders.

He said Mundo would market gas at Rs. 350 per cylinder at retail price, and assured that the price would change in future only according to major fluctuations in the world gas prices. Wickramanayake said Mundo would not expect profits from selling cylinders but would offer empty cylinders as an option to customers, at a very competitive price. Mundo's cylinder supplier, Italo Lanka Gas Cylinder Manufacturers (Pvt) Limited was manufacturing gas conversion tanks for vehicles and air compressor tanks for the last four years.

Italo Lanka Chairman W.P.J.P. Siriwardane said the factory in Minuwangoda has the capacity to manufacture 500 cylinders per 8 hour shift which could go up to 1500 cylinders per day.
