Delhi's American Embassy School leads on penultimate day's swimming

The swimmers from American Embassy School, New Delhi put up a good display to come on top with a combined team score of 733 (girls and boys) while Overseas School of Colombo collected 711 points to take second spot on the penultimate day of the 3-day South Asian International Schools Association Swimming Meet held at the Overseas School of Colombo swimming pool at Battaramulla yesterday.

The SAISA swim meet is organised and hosted by Overseas School of Colombo. Fifty six events were completed on Friday and yesterday and it will be continued today from 9.00 a.m. (the final day).

The American International School, Dhaka with 592 points were in third place, while International School of Karachi with 375 points were placed fourth, Lahore American School fifth with 141 points, Lincoln American School, Nepal sixth with 108 points and American School, Bombay seventh with 22 points.

Katherine Baker of American Embassy, New Delhi was the star swimmer and established three meet records in the girls 15-18 age group: 100 metres back stroke - 1.16.59 secs, 200 metres individual medley - 2.53.36 secs and 100 metres freestyle - 1.07.28 secs. Allie Ivanowicz of American International School of Dhaka accounted for two records in the girls 13-14 age group 50 metres freestyle - 30.51 secs and 100 metres back stroke - 1.16.45 secs.

Emily Coyle of American Embassy School, New Delhi was responsible for the fifth new mark in the girls under 12 - 50 metres freestyle - 31.52 secs.

Meanwhile, Overseas School of Colombo swimmers did well to medley relays for both boys and girls 13-14 age category. The OSC boys relay quartet of Bastiaan Huesken, Marc Twerenbold, Jason Staeck and Alexande Thorhauge took the 4 x 50 metres medley relay - 2.28.26 secs.

The OSC girls relay team of Christina Wright, Olivia Molden, Delphine Tardif and Maya Zomer timed 2.46.55 secs to win the 4x50 metres medley relay. The overall champions will be presented the SAISA Challenge Trophy.
