INTRAD exhibitors hopeful of export orders INTRAD 2002, the Exhibition and Investor Forum organised by the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka at the BMICH last month, concluded successfully with the participation of more than 80 exhibitors including smaller exporters. The sectors on display were apparel and textiles; ayurvedic, herbal, health and beauty care products; ceramics and porcelain; coconut-based products; cut flowers and foliage; gems and jewellery; furniture and wood products; handicraft; ornamental fish; rubber products; tea; spices and essential oils. More than 70 buyers from 11 countries - Australia, Canada, Japan, Germany, Oman, Pakistan, the Netherlands, South Korea, UAE, Saudi Arabia and UK - visited INTRAD 2002. Local exhibitors were able to meet them and are hopeful of obtaining firm orders. The Investor Forum that ran concurrent to the exhibition had over 200 participants in three half-day sessions. Infrastructure development, information and communication technology and tourism were the subjects discussed. The investment opportunities in these sectors were presented by the resource persons followed by panel discussions. The proceedings of the forum will be handed over to the Prime Minister and other key ministers. The Chamber had received the support of many ministries and departments to organise this event which was conducted as a public - private partnership effort. |
