45% growth in Lanka Bell operating profits

Lanka Bell has announced a 37 per cent increase in gross revenue and a 36 per cent increase in nett revenue during the first five months of the current fiscal year.

This has been attributed to the restructuring of Lanka Bell's sales, marketing and customer service departments at the beginning of the fiscal year to increase the focus on its target market and position itself as a telecommunications niche player. This move, coupled with effective cost management practices, has resulted in an increase in the company's operating profits by 45 per cent during this period.

The average revenue of the company has continued to grow by 13 per cent month to month, while the ratio of working business lines has increased to more than 40 per cent of the total customer base.

Lanka Bell's increased focus on its target segment, the corporate and business markets, has resulted in a 43 per cent increase in business revenues supported by a 207 per cent increase in the number of corporate and business installations.

The company has also reported 38 per cent growth in data service revenue and a 105 per cent growth in data links installations following the implementation of its Wireless Broadband Network 'BellBurst', which was the result of investment of Rs. 200 million at the beginning of the financial year.

In terms of service, maintenance and repairs, Lanka Bell has achieved 98 per cent fault clearance within 24 hours for both its Business and Residential Customers.

Being the first and only wireless local loop operator to launch its service in Jaffna via its satellite solution 'Bellsat' and introduce new services such as BellBurst and the Internet service, BellNet, Lanka Bell has now evolved into a fully fledged communications solutions provider with its voice, dedicated data, broadband, Internet and Prepaid services.
