Export earnings of tea on increase

Production of 202.5 m/kgs for the period of January/August shows a growth of 3.48 m/kgs or 1.75% when compared with the 199.09 m/kgs produced during the same period last year. Despite the Low Grown sector surpassing last years production for the month it remains 2.24 m/kgs or 1.99% lower year todate when compared with last year. The High and Mid growns however continue to be higher when compared with the same period last year. The high growns are a significant 5.50 m/kgs or 10 82% higher whilst the medium growns are 0.22 m/kgs or 0.62% higher when compared with the same period last year.

Exports of Tea for August 2002 up 4.04 m/kgs or 16 70%

Exports for 28.2 m/kgs for the month of August 2002 shows a healthy growth of 4.04 m/kgs or 16.70% when compared with the 24.2 m/kgs shipped during August 2001. The main contribution towards the increase has been from exports of tea in bulk form which shows a growth of 3.3 m/kgs or 25.6%. Exports of tea in bags too records a growth of 0.18 m/kgs or 17.85% when compared with the same period last year.

Export earnings up Rs. 826.5m or 16.6%

Export earnings for the month of 5.7 billion in 2002 records a growth of Rs. 826.5 million or 16.6% when compared with the Rs. 4.9 billion earned in August 2001. Once again the main contribution towards the growth has been from the bulk sector which records a growth of Rs. 533.7 million or 21.25% whilst tea bags record a growth of Rs. 130.4 million or 25.94% when compared with the same period last year.

Exports for January/August 2002 up 1.4 m/kgs or 0.72%

Exports for the period January/August 2002 of 197.2 m/kgs shows an increase of 1.4 m/kgs or 0.72% when compared with the 195.8 m/kgs shipped during the same period last year. Exports in bulk form shows a growth of 7.3 m/kgs or 6.25% whilst exports of tea in bags show a growth of 0.52 m/kgs or 5.98%. Exports of tea in packets however shows a decline of 6.5 m/kgs or 11.91%.

Export earnings up Rs. 1.1 billion or 2.73%

Export earnings for the period under review shows a growth of Rs. 1.1 billion or 2.73% when compared with the same period last year. As in the analysis of quantity exported, earnings of exports in bulk form and tea bags show increases of 5.20% and 9.48% respectively. Earnings from tea in packets however records a decline of 9.48%.
