"There is a growing demand for oldies among music lovers and I feel I have the potential to make them happy" says a confident Clifford Richards. Quite versatile, Richards greets you and puts you in tempo on the first working day of the week, Mondays, with his Breakfast Show on the Commercial Service of SLBC. His cool rapport with the listeners, his nuggets of news, and his phone in competition "Who Am I" are eagerly awaited. At Trinity College where he had his education Richards made his impact at talent shows and concerts organised by the College. "Funnily I was not a member of the Trinity College Choir but I used to carry off the singing prize for each grade almost every year" Richards remarks with that characteristic smile of his. "I'm greatly influenced by the singing style of Jim Reeves. When I left College I joined the choir of St. Paul's Kandy and later on in '88 decided to turn professional. I teamed up with Srinath Chandrasekera - keyboardist and started off a duo scene in Kandy performing at Citadel, Mahaweli Reach and Hotel Swisse. We enjoy ourselves making others happy" concludes Clifford Richards. So if you enjoy singing 'Judy', 'I Love You Because', 'Quando Quando', 'Living Doll', 'Delilah' or 'Green Green Grass of Home' then make the date on Sunday October 13 and carry home memories of yesteryear. |
