Amunugama chides Bala's call to MPs by Deepal Warnakulasuriya PA spokesman Dr. Sarath Amunugama has criticized LTTE chief negotiator Dr. Anton Balasingham for urging parliamentarians to support the Prime Minister's peace initiative. Addressing a news conference in Colombo on Friday, Dr. Amunugama referred to Dr. Balasingham's remarks to the media, after the Sattahip peace talks where the LTTE negotiator had called on all parliamentarians to strengthen the hands of the Prime Minister in his peace efforts. Dr. Amunugama said that he had "no right to direct parliamentarians". Dr. Amunugama also said the PA was unhappy about the way which the LTTE had been deproscribed. He also charged that the government had failed to keep the Parliament informed of the developments in the peace process as it had promised to do so earlier. "We have been asking for an urgent meeting to discuss the issue at the last two party leaders' meetings, but until this moment it has not been considered," Dr. Amunugama said. |
