An early Royal-Thomian expected in Lemonade trophy Schools Cricket Sixes

Twenty six school cricket teams will participate in the popular Lemonade six-a-side invitation cricket tournament conducted by the Old Wesleyites Sports Club for the 10th time on October 12 and 13 at the Wesley College grounds, Campbell Park.

This tournament although a shorter version of the game goes as a precursor to the main school cricket tournament and is becoming bigger and brighter each year. Combined schools teams from the districts of Jaffna, Trincomalee, Polonnaruwa and Batticaloa will 'pad up' for this event.

The defending champions Royal College, Colombo and runners-up of last year De Mazenod College, Kandana have received byes. The rest of the teams will meet each other on a knock out basis. Royal Institute - an international school from Colombo will make their appearance for the first time in the championship.

The winners will receive the Lemonade Trophy, while the Man of the Final, Best Batsman of the Tournament, Best Bowler of the tournament, the Best Fielder and the Player who hit the most number of sixes will also receive prizes.

Billy Walpola, Director, Marketing of Ceylon Cold Stores who presided at a press conference held at the Old Wesleyites SC pavilion regarding the tournament said that there is no doubt that the spectator interest was at a higher level during the tournament and promised them that he would give more entertainment while the tournament was in progress, providing live music.

The draw

Royal College received a bye, S. Thomas' vs Kalutara MV, Joseph Vaz vs Prince of Wales, St. Anthony's (W) vs Polonnaruwa, St. Peter's vs Thurstan, Maris Stella vs Wesley, Raddoluwa MV vs President's Rajagiriya, St. Joseph's vs Ananda, D. S. Senanayake vs Trincomalee, Isipatana vs Batticaloa, Lumbini vs Royal Institute, St. Benedict's vs Dharmapala, Jaffna vs Nalanda, De Mazenod College, Kandana bye.

Royal will meet the winners of the S.Thomas' vs Kalutara MV, while De Mazenod will take on the winners of Nalanda and Jaffna District.
