Thassim gets 4th Dan Black belt

Sensei M.N. Thassim, Chief Instructor/Representative, Nihon Karate-Do Kenshin Kai-Sri Lanka Branch visited Japan recently and was awarded the 4th Dan Black Belt (Yondan) by Shihan Satoshi Nishitani (8th Dan Black Belt - JKF), Grand Master Nikhon Karate-do Kenshin Kai - Tokyo, Japan.

To receive the Dan certificate from Shihan Nishitani is regarded as a great honour as he is one of the oldest karate instructors in Japan developing the Shotokan Style and is a direct descendant of Master Gichin Funakoshi - founder of Shotokan Karate-Do.

Shihan Nishithani has assured every assistance for the development of karate-do in Sri Lanka and is planning to visit our country in the near future to train and upgrade NKK members. The awarding of the 4th Dan Black Belt to Sensei Thassim will be a great boost to expand karate activities in Sri Lanka and also build up closer ties with Japan.

Sensei M.N. Thassim is one of the founder members of Sri Lanka Karate-Do Federation and the Sri Lanka Schools Karate Association. He is also the Vice President (Administration) of the national body and a member of the Sri Lanka Karate selection committee.

He was the manager of the Sri Lanka national karate team which participated in the 6th AKF Junior and Cadet Karate-Do Championship held on 22nd and 23rd Stptemebr, 2002 in Tokyo, Japan.
