CH beat Havies 3/2 in penalty shoot-out to enter semis

CH & FC won 3-2 over Havelocks in a penalty shoot out even producing no scoring at the end of 'extra time' after the scores were level at 17-all at the end of the 80 minutes of play to enter the semi-final of the Premier Champions Trophy Inter-Club Knock-out Rugby Championship under flood lights at the Sugathadasa Stadium yesterday.

CH's 17 points came through two goals and a penalty while the Havies scored through one goal, one penalty goal and a penalty after CH led 10-7 at half time.

Skipper Sashika Cooray and Batepola scored a try each for CH with Dinuk de S. Wijeratne converting both tries and also putting over the penalty. For Havies, Dilan Ekanayake scored the solitary try converted by Tikiri Dissanayake who also put over the penalty try. Prasad Perera fired across the penalty. Nizam Jamaldeen refereed.

Isipatana trounced Carey by 44 points (2 goals, 6 tries) to nil after leading 20-0 at half time to enter the semi-finals of the Schools Under-19 Tournament.

Ananda beat Science College 32-0 to enter the semi-finals of the under-17 tournament, while Royal entered the "semis" of the under-15 12-a-side tournament beating Vidyartha 10-0.

Four pre quarter-final games too were worked off in the under-13 10-a-side tournament where Vidyartha beat Prince of Wales 20-0, Isipatana beat St. Sylvester's 9-6 in a penalty shoot-out, Zahira beat Ananda 5-0 and Science College beat Nalanda 24-0.

Today, four more pre quarter-final matches are down for decision starting from 3 p.m. They are St. Joseph's vs Wesley, S. Thomas' Prep vs St. John's, Nugegoda, Sri Rahula vs Mahanama and S. Thomas' vs Dharmaraja. Thurstan take on Nalanda in an under-15 quarter-final, while Wesley meet Mahanama in an under-17 quarter-final game.

Then in the under-19 quarter- final, Dharmaraja takes on Nalanda, while in the Club Championship, CR and FC face Galle RFC.
