All set for 26th Annual MHA Hockey sevens on Oct. 27 by Pelham Juriansz The Mercantile Hockey Association's 26th Annual Hockey "Sevens" will be conducted on October 27 (Sunday) at the Havelock Sports Club grounds from 8 am onwards. This Tournament is being sponsored for the 21st time by Unilever (Ceylon) Ltd, the internationally renowned giant multinational. The Chief Guests will be Mr. Amal Cabraal, Brands Director, Unilever (Ceylon) Ltd and Mrs. Priya Cabraal, and the Guests of Honour, Mr. Dehan Seneviratne, Director Sales and Marketing, SmithKline Beecham (Private) Limited and Mrs. Shalinie Seneviratne. Twenty three teams will be competing for the 26th Annual "sevens". Browns are the defending champs in the "A" division. They will face stiff opposition from Commercial Bank, and Hatton National Bank. Others teams in the "A" division are Singers, Seylan Bank, and last but not least John Keells Group. These teams will vie for the Mercantile H.A. Trophy. In the "B" division, Arpico, Airport and Aviation, Hatton National Bank "B", Sampath Bank, Janashakthi Group, Sri Lankan Airlines and Bartleets will vie for honours for the Singer Trophy. The "C" division will see Abans, Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation and Colombo Hilton battle it out for supremacy. AWD Group, Smith Kline Beecham, Unilevers and Ceylon Tobacco will try to win the "D" division crown. And finally, Aitken Spence, M.J.F. Group and the second oldest company in the country are to dribble for the "E" division plum. An awards ceremony will follow the "sevens" where every member of the winning teams in the league, Knock-out and "Sevens" Tournaments will receive a replica or gift pack. The league Tournament winners are as follows: "A" Division- Horlicks Trophy- Tournament not held.
Dennis de Rosayro, the industrious President of the Mercantile Cricket Association (MHA) will be conducting his 25th Tournament as President and as always is looking forward to another feather in his cap and that of the MHA. Lets' hope that the weather keeps fine for yet another day of MHA hockey. |
