Shuttler Ranjith de Silva excels at World Masters Games A former Sri Lanka captain, Professor Ranjith de Silva, won two gold medals and a silver in the over 60 years category in the men's badminton event at the World Masters Games concluded last week in Melbourne, Australia. Over 25,000 competitors participated in 28 sports from 97 countries. De Silva, playing in Division I of the men's singles, was No. 2 in the world in his category to win the silver medal and received gold medals for the best individual performance in the men's team event and another for being in the winning team. After a long stint in Zambia and at the National University of Singapore, de Silva returned to his country of birth recently. He was a Council member of the International Badminton Federation (IBF) and President of the Southern African Badminton Confederation which also included South Africa. |
