Estate workers call off 'go-slow' by P.Krishnaswamy A week-long 'go-slow' campaign launched by workers of several estates in Badulla over the delay in payment of the profit share bonus was called off last Thursday following a compromise between the trade unions representing them and the estate management. Workers of about 10 estates under the management of the Malwatte Plantation Company began a protest campaign since estates under the management of other regional plantation companies had already made the payment. The other companies had made the payment on account of the forthcoming 'Deepavali' festival, trade union sources said. The estate management had attributed the cause of the delay to some estates making profits while the others did not, the sources said. |
