Trincomalee District Chamber inaugurated

The National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka (NCCSL) inaugurated the Chamber of Commerce of Trincomalee District (CoCoT) at the GA's Secretariat in Trincomalee recently, as part of its efforts to develop business activities in the North and East.

Chandra Embuldeniya, President NCCSL said the chamber had taken several delegations to Jaffna, numbering over 150 business people who have formed themselves into the National Development Forum. The establishment of the Chamber in Vavuniya was another significant achievement. He said that the NCCSL would establish chambers in Batticaloa and Ampara as well.

A memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the NCCSL and CoCoT for greater cooperation.

The following were appointed as the Executive Committee: Chairman K. Thurairajah, Vice Chairmen Dr. K. Hemachandra and P. Wickramanayagam, Secretary R. Rajarammohan, Treasurer S. Jagatheesan and Directors P.M.L. Pushpakumara, P. Mohan, S. Vineshwaran and M.M. Nijaam.

Sector committees were identified as fisheries, agriculture, food processing, tourism, garment and textiles, services and construction, light engineering, trade and commerce, aquaculture - deep sea fishing, cottage industry, and metal and foundry.

The Trincomalle GA and President NCCSL were nominated as patrons of the chamber.
