  A modern Country Singer

Elena Ley the young featured singer at the successful CMF's 'Country Road' concert with Dirk Maverick and his band sings modern country music that is now the rage in Nashville. At the age of seventeen she won a rock competition, worked as a live entertainment singer on a private TV channel in Milan and then switched to singing modern country music during her travels in the United States. As a hobby she writes fairy tales for children and in her next life she says she would love to do a study on monkeys and baby orang utans.

Name: Elena Ley (Elena Tecchiati)

Fav colour: Lilac. I was attracted to lilac and pink since I was a child.

Have you a fan club: Yes. Susanne she makes my website and I say 'thank you' to her. Girls between the ages of 10 and 20 see me as a role model. Guys in that age group want to marry me! I answer all their letters. Visit my website www.elena-ley.com

Was the going tough in your career: Yes. Because I didn't want to be just an entertainment singer. I wanted to be a personality singer - to be Elena Ley. I wanted to project my personality to my audience - tell them "this is my life. Here this is what I sing. Listen." If you don't have feelings you lose your audience.

I'm an Italian in Germany and it was difficult for a woman. My parents wanted me to study - but I knew music was my life. I choose my songs and write the keys. I found a person who believes in me, my manager Reiner Zull. I worked hard towards improving myself.

Your country influences: Paddy Lovelace, Joe Dee Messina and Brooks and Dunn. My first singer model was Dionne Warwick. I listen a lot to Aretha Franklin and Patti Labelle and Elvis Presley - my parent's favourite. At my singing classes, I learnt rock and blues first and then moved into the 'other rhythms. I hated the theory part of the classes!'

Fav country song: Dixieland Delight by Alabama.

TV shows: I've been a guest on musical shows, interviewed as well. Presented my CD 'Demo 2002' New American Music. My first single 'Yellow Groove' connects Modern Country to pop music. My CD could be bought through the internet.

Are you superstitious: Yes. Italians are superstitious. My lucky number is 3 and I wear this silver locket round my neck which my mother gave me as a good luck charm.

Go shopping for beauty products: Yes! Yes! I learnt how to apply make-up for stage shows and TV shows. I use a lot of glitter. Oh! I love fashions. I come from Milan you know. I love shoes, handbags from the house of Exte. I love trendy outfits. I love to mix them. Pick out what I like sew on pearls or tassels of pearls and make them different.

Which product would you like to endorse: Lipstick. Many people tell me I have good lips and I imagine I could do that.

Fav food: Pasta and pizza. Watermelon and papaya and all tropical fruits.

Do you still have your childhood toys: I played Barbie for many years. I still have my favourite doll-Jennifer.

How do you reject advances from men: There were many occasions, every time I perform. I smile and keep my distance. Now I'm stronger and men are afraid of me I guess and that is good!

What would your ideal man be: Strong enough and have the same feelings I have for music. Like the same things I like. Be a friend. Calm me down when I cry, be proud of me and love me wholeheartedly.
