Green the colour of success - Minister Kodituwakku

by PELHAM JURIANSZ

"Green seems to be the colour of success" commented the Minister of Human Resource Development, Education and Cultural Affairs Karunasena Kodituwakku, who was the chief guest at the sixth annual Colours Nite of Isipathana College held at the BMICH on Friday evening.

The Minister had just arrived from another function at D. S. Senanayake, Gampaha where he said that the school colour was green and since he was a "green" politician the colour of success seemed to be green as the school colour of Isipatana was green as well.

"Isipatana is known to the whole country as champions in rugby and now they have branched out into other spheres as well, with success in the academic fields and it is largely due to the efforts of one man, the indefatigable Principal Upali Gunasekera and his team of dedicated teachers as well as the old boys of the school".

"It is due to the enterprising leadership of the Principal and the four pillars of the school, namely the students, parents, teachers and old boys that the school has prospered," observed the Minister.

The Colours Nite was held to recognise the efforts of those who excelled especially in sports.

This has been a very special year for Isipatana as they are celebrating their Golden Anniversary, the Principal said that they were keen on having the Minister as he is not only the Minister of Education but Cultural Affairs as well and that schools are also tied up with cultural events.

Isipatana produced the "scrabbler of the year" and as usual, excelled in Rugby but unfortunately there was no award for the 'Par Excellence 2001' as no one really excelled enough to win it.

The boys who excelled in athletics were D. N. Kodituwakku and Dilshan Rajudeen, and cricket colours were awarded to Rohan de Silva and Saman Nishantha Fernando.

Rugby colours were awarded to Amila Prasad, Asanka Bandara, Anuradha Dharmatilake, Thanujaya Seneviratne, Asanga Ganegala, Mahesh Ranga, and re-awarded to Nimesh Silva, Asanga Thalagalaarachchi, Roshan Pieris, Infaz Faiz, and Ranga Perera.

Basketball colours were awarded to Mohamed Nazeer. Hockey colours to Mohamed Naushad and Kosala Perera.

Football Colours awarded to Sujitha Lanka, P. Perera, R. Ramanayake, K. Wettasinghe, R. Hewavitharana, A. Kumarasinghe, D. Ishanka, M. Sudarashan, D. Dissanayake, B. Sahmika, U. Lanka, A. Pieris, S. Subasinghe, I. Kumara, N. Suminda and Thomas Clarence.

Karate colours were awarded to H. T. Danushka Chamil Pieris, and Cadetting colours to K. Buddhika. Wushu colours recipient was R. Madushanka Bandaranayake.

A special certificate was awarded to B. Chamika Mihiran. Three prominent old boys were felicitated at the Colours Nite, namely Sriyantha Rajakurana, S. H. U. Karnain and Mervyn Preena.
