Golf tourney in aid of National Council for Deaf

by Pelham Juriansz

The American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) are conducting their fourth Annual AMCHAM Charity Golf Tournament on November 4 (Deepavali Day) in aid of the National Council for the Deaf, at the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC).

The proceeds from this year's event will be used to establish an education fund for top performing university students, and to assist the National Council for the Deaf in purchasing ten sets of hearing aids to be given to underprivileged pre-school children who suffer from hearing impairments.

The first AMCHAM Charity Golf Tournament was held in 1999, and the tournament has grown in each successive year.

This year, more than 165 golfers are expected to participate and compete for fantastic prizes, including air tickets, weekend vouchers, gift packs etc.

The tournament is open to all interested individuals, and is played according to the Stableford format. The AMCHAM Charity Golf Tournament is organised in collaboration with the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) whose support has been essential to the event's success.

Since 1999 the tournament has raised more than a million rupees for charity, becoming one of the premier annual fundraising events in Sri Lanka.

In the past years the American Chamber has used proceeds from the tournament to provide support to the Castle Street Maternity Hospital, the Jaipur Limb Program and young Entrepreneurs of Sri Lanka.

This year's sponsors include Premier Pacific International (Pvt) Ltd as the principal sponsor and three co-sponsors Caltex, Citibank, and Dialog GSM.

The maximum handicap for gents is 28 and for ladies is 45. If a golfer does not have a handicap, the committee reserves the right to adjust such estimated handicaps at any time.
