Tennis coach Sylvester Francis the better by Dubai stint

Dusky Sylvester Francis (37), who has now made a name for himself and a tennis coach, followed a ten-day coaching programme in Dubai recently. Over 150 coaches mostly from Syria, Lebanon, Iran, Australia, Germany, England, Dubai, China, India and Pakistan too attended.

Francis is now attached to the Hilton Sports Centre as its tennis pro since 1999 and also coached Royal College to many titles in schools' tournaments for the past nine years. He also coached at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA).

Involved in coaching for the past 19 years, Francis has attended camps for coaches in Bangkok and Sri Lanka too. Educated at St. Peter's College, he is a Public Schools coloursman, Mainly a doubles player, Francis was ranked No. 3 in the under-21 age group and has played in numerous ranking tournaments in the country.

He is married to Andrea Breher, a German national, who is the FTI Resident Manager in Sri Lanka. They have one daughter, Lavinia. (L.G.)
