Saracens and Old Rajans declared joint champs at Kandy cricket sixes

by S. M. JIFFRY ABDEEN, Kandy sports correspondent

Saracens Cricket Club and Old Rajans Sports Club were declared joint champions at the Kandy District inter-club six-a-side cricket tournament as the finals were washed off due to rain at the Asgiriya Stadium yesterday.

This was the third year in running that this tournament has ended without completion and the finalists being declared joint champions.

A notable feature was two top sides from Kandy playing in the P. Sara Trophy tournament namely Kandy CC and Kandy Youths CC were knocked out in the semifinals by Old Rajans and Saracens CC who virtually field schoolboy sides.

Two teams Police SC and Kandy Municipal SC did not turn up conceding walk overs which to some extent upset the draw in the top half with a bye resulting in the quarter-finals.
