Enthusiastic young dance competitors took part in a recent schools' dancing competition organised by Alethea International School. Ten International schools competed in the categories which included Tap, Jazz ballet, free style, cha cha, jive and for the first time fusion dancing with eastern dancers and tap dancing to eastern drum beats. This was something unique under the east/west category. Alethea International School trained by Malsiri Dias Weerasingha were the overall winners in the western dancing section. The eastern dancers were trained by Upali Wijewardena while Malsiri Weerasingha was responsible for the training of the tap dancers to eastern drum beats. More than 30 children participated in the competition in the western section, their ages ranging from six to nineteen. In organising this inter-school competition the CEO of Alethea International Kumari Hapugalla Perera commented that the event encouraged the students to enrich their own styles performing at their best. She believed in encouraging students in their co-curricular activities because it plays a vital part in moulding well rounded citizens. |
