Book launch : 'Nature and Buddhism'

Buddhism, pride of Asia has special attraction to the West today and many periodicals, journals carry articles on Buddhism and Buddhist way of life and large number of books are written for the erudition of the westerner.

Writing a foreword to this latest book on Buddhism Ven. Bellanwila Wimalarathana Thera says that ".... It is not a traditional presentation of fundamentals of Buddhism in a tabulated form, as we usually find in most of the books.

Nor in this book a simple narration of these fundamentals. The writer has set Buddhism in a practical context and considered it as a dynamic force, an important variable factor that could greatly influence the people by helping them to reshape, direct, guide and enlighten their approach ,outlook, attitude and thinking with regard to themselves and the world around them". Hence it could be said that the book takes a different approach in presenting the principles and the teachings of the Lord Buddha for the better understanding of the 21st century man.

Hemananda told the 'Sunday Observer' that he had done much research before composing this book and added that he was trying his best to apply Buddhists principles, to day to day life so that the reader could grasp better what contains in the Buddhist texts. It is a result of my own experience", he added.

The Lord Buddha made use of the things available in His day to explain His teaching and those are found in books written on Buddhism. Here in this book, the author has taken pain in explaining the two basic teachings of Buddhism `Karma' and 'Rebirth' using products of the present day advanced technology. He take those principles and apply them to day to day life of the modern man. Thus he helps the reader understand better the simple truth of life and nature.

Hemananda, a born Buddhist from Athuruwella, Induruwa has his early education at Holy Cross College, Kalutara and obtained his B.Sc Degree from the University of London. He worked for sometime in Sri Lanka while working in the Valuation Department as an Assistant Valuer and then left for Britain. There along with Sri Lankan Buddhist, he formed the Thames Meditation Society, and also helped in opening a Buddhist temple along River Thames.

He is also the president of the Society and edits the Buddhist Vesak annual. He is in Sri Lanka at present to launch his book.
