'Lasting Peace' - theme at UNP convention

"Lasting Peace to the Motherland" was the theme of the 48th National Convention of the United National Party (UNP) which was held at the Sugathadasa Stadium, Colombo, yesterday.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe delivered the keynote address at the Convention, where thousands of UNP supporters attended, from all parts of the island.

This is the second national convention of the UNP after it won the 2001 December 5, General elections under the leadership of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, UNP media spokesman Gayantha Karunatilleka said. The Party is also expected to adopt four special resolutions at today's convention, he added.
