Bond leads New Zealand to Test win over India

WELLINGTON, Dec 14 (Reuters) - New Zealand has demolished India by 10 wickets to wrap up the first test of their two-match series inside three days on Saturday.

Needing just 36 for victory after bowling India out for 121 in their second innings, Mark Richardson and Lou Vincent polished off the runs in just 9.3 overs, with Vincent finishing on 21 and Richardson 14 not out.

New Zealand's victory was set up in the morning when fast bowler Shane Bond ripped the top off the Indian batting lineup to send the visitors into the lunch break at 35 for four.

Bond, who eventually ended up with figures of 4-33, bowled Sachin Tendulkar for 51 to end the India's second innings for just 121 after the break, setting up the meagre New Zealand run target.

The 27-year-old grabbed three wickets for eight runs off eight overs of high-speed bowling in his spell before lunch.

The right-hander had the aggressive Virender Sehwag lbw for 12, bowled Rahul Dravid for seven and then had skipper Saurav Ganguly caught behind for two in his opening spell.

Debutant Jacob Oram took the other wicket to fall, Sanjay Bangar lbw for 12, before the lunch break.

Wickets fell regularly after lunch with the New Zealand fielders taking some tremendous catches.

The first of which was when New Zealand skipper Stephen Fleming ended a spirited innings from Parthiv Patel with a spectacular catch at first slip for 10.

Ajit Agarkar, was plucked out of the air by Craig McMillan at deep backward point with a full-length dive, and then Zaheer Khan was caught at third slip by Scott Styris with another full dive.

Earlier, Zaheer picked up career-best figures as India dismissed New Zealand for 247, a lead of 86, on the third morning.

Zaheer finished with five for 53 after he grabbed a further two wickets in the morning session.

Richardson top-scored for New Zealand in their first innings with 89 before Zaheer trapped him in front lbw, off the first delivery with the second new ball.

Left-arm spinner Daniel Vettori, who was on nought when New Zealand resumed the day's play at 201 for seven, struck a couple of lusty blows before getting an edge from Zaheer to Patel, who took a fine diving catch behind the stumps, for 21.

Fast bowler Bond was the final wicket to fall when he took an almighty heave at Ajit Agarkar and was bowled for two.
