US freighter overshoots Singapore airport runway A DC-8 aircraft operated by US-based Arrow Air overshot the runway on landing at Singapore's Changi airport and came to rest nose-down on a grass verge. The second incident at the airport in less than 24 hours forced the closure of one runway, but did not disrupt airport operations, the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) said in a statement. The freight plane overshot the runway on arriving from Yokota, Japan, during rain Friday evening. The runway was not reopened until early Saturday afternoon, a CAAS spokesman said. None of the four people onboard the aircraft was injured. On Thursday, a Garuda airlines 737 with 107 passengers and crew onboard, was hit by an airport vehicle while taxiing to its take-off point for a flight to Jakarta. The door of the nose wheel compartment of the aircraft was damaged in the incident, but no one was injured. Aviation authorities are investigating both incidents. |
