PVC pipe manufacturers violate SLS regulations The Internal Trade Department investigations found out that some PVC pipe and fitting manufacturers are willflly violating the relevant SLS regulations by manufacturing a second line of substandard products without the SLS logo. Acting Commissioner of Internal Trade, Mr. Janaka Sugathadasa said that there are 20 odd products including PVC pipes and fittings, electrical fittings, some food items including jams and cordials manufactured in Sri Lanka are mandatory to comply with the SLS standards and also display the SLS logo on them. He said that these substandard PVC products has been sold in the market intermix with the standard products under same brand name and later found out that they were not counterfeit products, but supplied by the manufacturer of the standard products. Mr. Sugathadasa further said that the Sri Lanka Standardisation Institute, which is the conferring authority of the SLS standards have powers to inspect the manufacturing plants and take action against such intentional wrongdoings. |
