Former tennis stars felicitated

Seven former national champions, including a woman, were rewarded by the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) for their past performances and services rendered to the sport at a function held recently at the National Tennis Centre (NTC).

They were former national champions and Davis Cup "stars" Bernard Pinto, Rupert Ferdinands, P. S. Kumara, Arjun Fernando, Frank Sebaratnam and Umesh Walloopillai, while the solitary woman was Miss Ranjani Jayasuriya. Four other persons were given "Service Awards" by the SLTA. They were Cedric T. de Silva, D. D. N. Selvadurai, Lalith Witharne and the late M. D. Seneviratne.

The President of the SLTA, Suresh Subramaniam said that this was the first time in the SLTA history that such awards were made and will be continued in the future as well. (L.G.)
