IT industry gets ready for CeBIT 2003 A consortium of leading IT organisations will represent Sri Lanka's Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industry at the CeBIT exhibition and trade fair in Hannover, Germany in March. Under the auspices of the Sri Lanka Software Exporters Association (SEA) and the Export Development Board (EDB), the delegation will host a Sri Lanka Pavilion, with the shared objective of promoting the ICT industry of the country. This is the third time a Sri Lankan delegation is participating at CeBIT. The Sri Lanka Pavilion at CeBIT 2002 was a complete success, especially in terms of the positive reaction from visitors, leading to many business corporations. CeBIT has become an invaluable source of direct exposure to a broad spectrum of opinion leaders comprising top management personnel, scientists, diplomats, politicians and journalists. CeBIT is an annual event held to promote the ICT industry. It is the world's biggest and most widely known trade show covering the entire spectrum of information technology, telecommunications, software and services. Every year it serves as the most famous and leading event for this sector, with 7,500 exhibitors from more than 60 countries and close to one million visitors from around the globe. The pavilion design will portray a unique and vibrant Sri Lanka, with a message to position the country as the preferred destination for quality and innovative products. The EDB in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Embassy in Germany and the Foreign Ministry has drawn a strategy to promote the event to attract targeted visitors, and to maximise the traffic through the pavilion. The SEA also plans to organise forums and social events geared towards selected invitees with a view to conducting focused promotions, and networking with a community of industry leaders. This is anticipated to be an excellent means to promote all industries of Sri Lanka together with IT. A day will be set aside for the forum. The Lankan Ambassador in Germany and the executive committee of the German Software Association will be among the guests. Given the multitude of visitors from different walks of life, CeBIT would provide the ideal arena for promoting diverse products and services in a truly global setting. It offers a direct marketing opportunity by giving access to a mass international market during the eight days of the show. Today's market place is shaped by the integration and convergence of information processing, telecommunications, networking, Internet solutions and services, IT engineering solutions, IT security, bank and card technology, as well as research and technology. CeBIT focuses on the trend towards integrated solutions and applications with a unique array geared to the needs of industry, business and administration. All major manufacturers and suppliers use CeBIT as a platform for the presentation of new high-tech innovations, prototypes, further developments and research findings. The event is invaluable to manufacturers and suppliers worldwide, particularly for those interested in the developing markets of Eastern Europe or Central and South America. |
