CT Smith records highest turnover on CSE The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) has ranked CT Smith Stockbrokers (Pvt) Ltd. No. 1 in terms of overall turnover for 2002. CT Smith has earned the top slot for turnover for eight years during its 10-year existence. The ranking included the years 1994 and 2002 when the CSE recorded the highest levels of turnover. The company made a 14 per cent contribution to the turnover for the year ended December 31, 2002 and a contribution of over 18 per cent to total turnover for the 10 years ended December 31, 2002. CT Smith contributed over 20 per cent to turnover during six of its 10 years. According to a CT Smith news release, foreign activity on the Exchange over the past 10 years was dominated by the company which contributed 37 per cent to CSE's total foreign turnover during this period. The company's share of foreign turnover for 2002 was also 37 per cent. It has a broad-based foreign and domestic institutional clientele and has working relationships with international broking firms. The substantially high volumes of foreign business transacted by the company for which it shares the normal brokerage commission equally with foreign brokers, resulted in CT Smith being ranked third in terms of brokerage commission earned despite making the highest contribution to the overall turnover. CT Smith Stockbrokers (Pvt) Ltd, a member of the Ceylon Theatres Group, commenced operation in November 1992. |
