Beyond imagination...

by Farah Macan Markar

Fashion. The real. The unreal. It has been in existence for a long, long, time. It's everywhere. East or West. Fashion has no time or place. It's universal. A language of its own which speaks for itself. It is the ultimate result of the working together of the human hand, eye and mind. The splurting out of the imagination. This is what "Fusion" beyond imagination 2003, a fashion show, directed by Prasad Bidapa Associates India, to be staged on January 14, at The Lanka Oberoi hopes to bring out. Presented by JD Institute of Fashion Technology "Fusion" will see the works of the tenth batch of graduating fashion students.

Portraying a totally new concept in Sri Lankan fashion, the show will spell out some unique designs, ranging, from a blend of religious philosophies, the elements of the human body, a cultural blend of countries, a fusion of the real world and the cartoon world, a mixture of dances, a spoonful of the environment, righteousness, happiness, mortality and immortality.

All these will be the works of young graduating students, Chathuri Jayasooria, Tania Diaz, Rajini Arulanandarajah, Chris Benjamin, Bianca Rodenburg, Zuleyha Ibrahim, Mohamed Mahfooz, Sasrika Senaratne, Shanmugam Ajantharr, Saada Ali, Madri Jayasekara, Kumari Rodrigo, Susanna Peris, Aminath Shabna, Rabga Jayabandu, Thasneem Ahmed Didi and Medini Amaratunga.

Prasad Bidapa, one of India's leading fashion consultants who has worked in the fashion industry for the last twenty years, will be presenting these graduating students at the fashion show. He regularly presents some of the largest fashion events in India, having conceptualised and choreographed shows like The Annual Kingfisher Fashion Awards and various shows for designers like Rohit Bal, Ritu Beri, Tarun Tehiliani, Manoviraj Khosla, Suneet Varma, Manish Malhotra, Azeem Khan and Satya Paul.

Sri Lankan Airlines, Sri Lanka Tourism and The Lanka Oberoi join hands with the JD Institute to present this important event. The Official Model Coordination will be Blitz and Official Make Up Supplier-Constance Carroll. Fashion Bug, Wonderlight and Triumph will be the co sponsors of the show.

It will be styled by Salon Wimal's known for their cutting edge styles in hair and make-up.
