Swimming at two different pools at SAF Games : Pakistan women will be seen in action for first time by LESLIE FERNANDO Sri Lanka swimmers both men and women will swim in two international meets - South Asian Federation Games (SAF Games) in Pakistan and the Asian Age Group Swimming Championships in Qatar this year. The SAF Games will be held from march 29 to April 7 and already 36 swimmers have been selected to face the selection trial from January 22 to 25 at the Sugathadasa Stadium Swimming pool. The swimming events at the SAF Games will be conducted at two separate swimming pools as Pakistan women swimmers will be seen in action for the first time at the Games. The women's events will have an all-women panel of officials too. The Asian Age Group Swimming Championships conducted by the Asian Swimming Association will be hosted by Qatar Swimming Federation from July 22 to 25 in Qatar. The selection of Sri lanka swimmers will be on the performances at the pentathlon Swimming Championships and the Age Group Swimming Championships to be worked off in April and June respectively. According to the 2003 aquatic sports calendar of national Amateur Aquatic Sports Union (NAASU) swimmers will have the opportunity of participating in ten local meets, for waterpolo players five tournaments, for divers five meets and two championships for synchronized swimmers. For the first time NAASU has organised six aquatic development meets, all in outstation towns. March 2: 66th Annual Open Sea Swim at Mount Lavinia. April 5-7: 30th Pentathlon Championships at Sugathadasa Stadium pool. May 9-10: 7th Short Course National Swimming Championships at Sinhalese Sports Club pool. June 3-5: 27th Age Group Swimming and Diving Championships at Sugathadasa Stadium pool. August 15-16: Junior National Swimming and Diving Championships at Sugathadasa Stadium pool. August 30: Masters Swimming Championships at Otter Aquatic Club pool. October 2-4: Inter-Club Swimming and Diving Championships at Otter Aquatic Club pool. October 30-31 and November 1: National Swimming, Diving, Waterpolo and synchronized Swimming at Sugathadasa Stadium pool. Waterpolo: March 16: Ellawala 'B' League Tournament at Royal College pool. May 4: Junior National tournament at Sugathadasa Stadium pool. September 7: NAASU League tournament at Sugathadasa Stadium pool. November 1: David Vast Knock-out Tournament at Sugathadasa Stadium pool. Synchronized wimming: June 21: Age Group Championships at Mahamaya College, Kandy pool. October 31 and November 1: National Championships. Aquatic Development meets: March 23: North Western Range Meet at Kurunegala. April 27: Southern Range Meet at Matara. May 25: Central Range Meet at Dambulla. June 28: Western Range Meet at Nawaloka Swimming pool in Gampaha. July 20: North Central Range Meet at Anuradhapura.
