To lose Arjuna's services a cricketing tragedy

He was without a doubt a colossus to Sri Lankan cricket. He championed the transformation. A new era. Indeed, the name Arjuna Ranatunga is synonymous with our cricket.

Speak of the game and his name has already gone down in the annals of our history as a goliath who redefined it with new meaning. Winning cricket's World Cup in 1995-`96 under his leadership being the high point of that ascendancy. And today, as it takes a battering image, there has been a patriotic feeling various quarters from fans to experts expressing concern.

The strong consensus is that Ranatunga's first hand expertise must surely be knitted to the game in some capacity in ensuring all is not lost.

For, as one wig whispered, to see such vast input confined to nothingness is a tragedy.
