The Sri Lankan Association of Racing Drivers and Riders (SLARDAR) will be conducting their championship for 2003 for the second consecutive year this year and the first of the meets will be held on February 9 at Katukurunda race track.

The Sri Lanka Air Force has given the greenlight to hold the meet and the organisers have also got permission from the newly formed governing body of motor sports SLAMS and the Motor Cycle Federation. Late last year, this year too the championship will consist of five categories, namely F/Ford 1600/super car event, Standard cars over 12 kg H.P. Motor Cross Bikes up to 125 c.c. and Motor cycle racing (2 stroke up to 250 c.c. and four stroke up to 600 c.c.) To add more colour to the championship and to give the competitors more prominence at all mass start events, they will run two races.

Points will be awarded for both races.

Last year F/Ford champion - Rohan de Silva, Super Car champion - Dinesh Deheragoda, Stock-car champion - Shalutha Adasuriya, Motor-cross champion - Nalin Perera, Tarmac champion - Damien Gunatilleke will defend their titles.

The events to be worked off at Katukurunda in order of racing:

1. Group 'P' - Motor cycles upto 125 c.c., 2. Group 'A' - Mini Saloon 998 c.c., 3. Group 'R' - Four-stroke upto 600 c.c., 4. Group 'R' - Motor cycles upto 125 c.c., 5. Group 'M' and cars upto 1050 c.c., 6. Group 'P' - motor cycles upto 250 c.c., 7. Group 'F' - Ford Formula 1600 c.c. (race 1), 8. Group 'A' - Cars over 12kg/Hp, 9. Group 'R' - Motor cycles upto 125 c.c., 10. Group 'M' and 'T' 1050 c.c. upto 1350 c.c., 11. Group 'A' - Cars - 10 to 12 kg/hp, 12. Group 'R' - Motor cycles upto 250 c.c., 13. Group 'M' and 'T' - Cars upto 1655 c.c., 14. Group 'A' - Cars - 8 to 10 kg/Hp, 15. Group 'F' - Ford Formula 1600 c.c. (race 1), 16. Group 'M' and 'T' - Cars 1665 upto 2550 c.c., 17. Group 'T' and 'J' - Truck and jeep, 18. Group 'M' and 'T' - Cars upto 3500 c.c., 19. Group 'A' - Cars 6 to 8 kg/Hp, 20. Motorcycles open event.

Entries close on January 24 at SLARDAR Office, 128, Highlevel Road, Nugegoda.
