Int'l container carrier signs up with Ports Authority One of the world's largest container carriers Maersk Sealand, owning a container fleet of 312 vessels with an annual shipboard capacity of 773,931 TEUs, has entered a terminal service agreement with the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) to exclusively patronize the Jaya Container Terminal for two years. Accordingly, all current and future services operated by Maersk Sealand through the Port of Colombo will be handled at SLPA container terminals. Under the agreement, Maersk Sealand has committed an annual volume of 125,000 transhipment containers and 40,000 domestic containers. The revenue the SLPA would derive from a domestic container is four times greater than handling a transshipment container. |
