A group of young Peterites and their Rector Rev. Fr. Felician Ranjith Perera launched "The Eco Friendly Society" in 2000. The society had 85 members and the resources of three professionals: Damian de Silva, Royden Gibbs and Virginia Eelthman. The Society organised workshops, community projects, field trips and exhibitions. After two years this society is being re-launched as "Friends of Nature". "Friends of Nature" will integrate with similar societies and movements in other schools to help spread awareness and efforts to curb pollution, bio-diversity, degradation and protection of eco-systems. At St. Peter's Bambalapitiya, nature enthusiasts are willing, with limited resources, to play a part to make the difference. Their first requirement is to ensure that the school environment is free from any health hazards that may pose a threat to students. |
