A flag to unite not divide "There is only one caste... The caste of Humanity Rings the theme of Purandara Sri Bhadra Marapana's Human Flag, a flag symbolic of the entire human race and world peace. This universal flag of the people symbolises, the sun and the moon in red and yellow. The cosmic father and mother (Purusha, Mathru) of the universe (Sakvala) is the outer black and white of the flag. The people in black and white emerging together in the circle are the children of this Mother Earth. The whole of humanity is one drop of blood in the centre of the earth. The flag designed by Purandara Sri Bhadra Marapana (an artist and naturalist by profession) from the Museum of Ethnology and Folk Art, Getangama, Ratnapura was inspired by the Dharma(Cosmic law) as preached by Gautama Buddha in Vasetta Sutra, Majjima Nikaya. This Dharma explains that all people in the world, cannot be divided, for they are all one and have the same features and sex. In today's world psychological and social sickness have divided human beings into warring fractions. Throughout the world the news is read over and over again in every language informing about war, femine, AIDS, global warming, nuclear destruction, loss of tropical forests and species, over population, drugs and violence. And these continue to happen. Time is running out. This planet is the inheritance of everyone of us, either we all benefit or we all lose. This is one earth and one humanity. It was with this in mind that Marapana has created the human flag. It has no boundaries, nationalities or cultures. It is a universal flag for every one of us. - fmm |
