Name: Tamara Ruberu Trendy outfits: Yes, I love trendy outfits. I like to follow the high fashion and I go in for the latest fashion. As for designer clothes I look forward to wearing them, but ofcourse only those that suit my purse! Fav music: Pop music, but my all time favourite group is the jazz-rock band Chicago. Fav song of the 80's and 90's: From the 80's it's 'Rise' by Herb Alpert and his band. I played it for my examination in '83 and was successful. Also from the 80's Irene Cara's "What A Feeling". From the 90's Duran Duran's "Ordinary World." Worst song: 'Sacrifice' and 'One Day At A Time'. Both these songs have only three chords and it is boring. Your music influences: I'm classically trained, yet all my friends are pop music fans so my influences are from Elton John and Yanni. Are you superstitious: Yes. I have my own superstitions. Like if my car does not start the first time I switch it on, then in my mind the whole day will not be just right - things are bound to go wrong. And also when I switch on the radio and the first song I hear has an uncanny way of affecting me. If the lyrics speak of happiness and love then things go right for me, but on the other hand if the lyrics are sad and tell a tale of sorrow and break up of a relationship - believe me it is not smooth sailing for me on that day. Do Do you still treasure your childhood toys: Yes. I never broke them and they are at my mother's home stored in a cupboard. I still have the rubber dog I got before I was one year old, it was precious to me. What makes you happy in life: Music. I can listen to music and play for long hours. When I listen to a piece and am able to play it in full - that makes me happy. Also being with my family - my mother and my husband. But there's something else that makes me extremely happy - nature. I enjoy sitting under a tree listening to the rustling of the leaves and the wind swishing through paddy fields and the twittering of the birds. Where would you like to be most now: In Singapore. I think it is the best country for women. It is so safe in the night. Even at midnight you can travel in a bus and no will touch you or molest you. I was a music teacher there and it gave me great pleasure working there - they appreciate your work. In fact I'm home sick for Singapore! What other profession would you like to be in: The hotel industry. I did languages French, German and Japanese. I like meeting people and I get on well with all. I have no differences. I think of myself as a citizen of the world. Which character would you like to play in a film: A comedy role like that of Nanny played by Fran Drecher. I can watch that soap over and over again. Fav food and do you cook: My favourite food is the Japanese Sushi. As for cooking, well I have a husband who is a wonderful cook - so there! Who do you admire: Lee Kwan Yu the former Prime Minister of Singapore. He built Singapore into the fabulous city it is today. What would be your greatest achievement: Winning the scholarship to study music at the Japan Foundation in Japan in '83. I was just 22 years. I travelled to Japan alone. At the airport I had to get into a bus and travel to the city 70 kilometres away to another terminal where an official from the Foundation was there to meet me. In a strange country and for the first time it was a great achievement for me. Which product would you like most to endorse: Yamaha range of keyboards and piano. What would you do if you ruled the world: I'd wipe out terrorism and make the people respect all religions. Ofcourse I'd see to it that they enjoy peace and stop the fighting. What do you think life would be like in the year 3000: There would be development in technology. People will have techno children! There won't be love no emotions - it would be like the plastic world. There'll be tablets to swallow for food and people would be travelling in flying machines and motor bikes! |
