by Farah Macan Makar It was a dazzling event as models took the cat walk in various shades of colours and a crazy array of creations, displaying the works of the young designers graduating from the JD Institute of Fashion Technology. Creamy white fabrics draped here and there with rainbow colours, multi coloured bright theatrical costumes, white and purple, white and brown blended together, a fusion of sea greens and blues, swirls of reds and purples, were the colours of the day, each designer having his/her own unique blend. With items ranging from five foot long draperies to the all revealing shortly clad stuff it was a head to toe dress up from creative headwear to matching footwear and a whole lot of accessories thrown in between. In this exploration of the imagination, Maduri Jayasekara topped the list, winning not only the Hemanthrivedi award which was given by Mr. Hemanthrivedi himself, but also capped the Designer of the Year Award which was given by Minister Ravi Karunanayaka. With music to match and lighting to set the mood the show was a fusion of countries, cultures and philosophies. Directed by Prasad Bidappa, the show was held at the Oberoi. |
